I was on starboard with right of way — how did I get disqualified for the collision?
On opposite tacks the port boat must keep clear under Rule 10 — but Rule 14 binds every boat to avoid contact if reasonably possible, including the right-of-way boat. The catch that saved her here: a right-of-way boat need not act until it's clear the other boat won't keep clear, and by then there was nothing she could reasonably do. So she was reinstated on appeal — and the port boat owned the foul. (World Sailing Case 87.)
